You can never have too many books, right? In this month’s 12 Months of Montessori blog hop, we are all sharing our favorite Montessori and Montessori inspired books for kids. I thought I would share some of our favorites for babies and preschoolers.
My kids are 3 1/2 and 7 months old. My daughter has always loved books, even as a little baby. My son is more interested in moving and chewing on things at the moment, but he will look at books for a few minutes if I am holding him.
Here are some of our favorite Montessori inspired books.
Montessori Inspired Books for Baby
Touch and Feel Picture Cards – These aren’t necessarily books, but we love them so they are included. They are perfect for baby because they can feel the different textures and hold them easily in their hands.
Touch and Feel Book Series from DK Books – We have the Horse and Wild Animals one, but these have always been a favorite in our house. We also include them in our church quiet bag.
First 100 Words – This is another one we have used with both kids and they love. My daughter still enjoys pulling this one out and looking at it with Ben.
Who’s Looking At You? – This is a great book for all ages, but it is fun for older babies because of the flip tabs. Underneath each “eye” is a picture of the animal it belongs to and some fun facts about it.
Montessori Books for Preschoolers
Montessori Works Book Set – I absolutely adore these books. Montessori: Letter Works, Montessori: Shape Works, Montessori: Map Works, and Montessori: Number Work. We use these with both the baby and my daughter. I like using the Letter Works especially for our weekly Letter of the Week shelf activities.
My First Little House Books – I grew up loving the Little House of the Prairie series. And now they have the My First Little House Books for younger children. My daughter has loved reading these and always asks grandma when she is getting her a new one.
Sounds of the Wild – Ocean – This is a really fun pop-up book with very realistic pictures of ocean creatures, along with some of the noises that they make. There are also a lot of ocean animals facts, but my daughter just enjoys looking at all the pictures most of the time.

I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw your first two sets of book recommendations for babies and toddlers, as those have been my favorite and a favorite of my kiddos’ when they were that young. We also love the Little House on the Prairie series along with the Montessori books recommended. Awesome post!
